Citizens of the Canada do not need a visa to enter Slovenia for tourist or business travels of up to 90 days.

Who can apply?

In order to be eligible to apply for a Schengen visa at the Embassy of Slovenia the main destination of your visit must be Slovenia. If you are visiting more Schengen Countries, and Slovenia is not the main destination of the visit, you should direct your visa application to the country where you will be staying for the longest period of time. If you will be spending an equal period of time in more than one Schengen Country please direct your application to the Schengen Country that is the first port of entry of your visit.

If the purpose of your visit is work or study or if you intend to visit Slovenia for more than 90 days, you will need either visa D (for a stay between 90 days and 1 year) or a residency permit. Verify the information on how to obtain a residency permit with the Consular Office.

                                      IMPORTANT NOTICE

Starting Thursday, May 15, 2014, the Embassy of the Republic of Slovenia in Ottawa is collecting biometric data, that is, fingerprints, for Schengen visas as part of the Visa Information System (VIS).

Therefore, as from 15 May 2014 applicants applying for a Schengen visa have to appear in person when lodging the application.  

Request an appointment by electronic mail to  vot(at)gov.si and suggest a day and hour within official business hours.

Visa fees

A single visa fee of 84.00 CAD is applied for all types of visas regardless of the duration and/or number of entries. Payment is collected with the application; there is no refund in case of a negative decision.

Based on special agreements, there is a lower fee of 49 CAD for citizens of Albania,Russia, Kosovo, Ukraine, Georgia and Turkey.

The visa procedure is free of charge for spouses/children of EU citizens, children up to 6 years of age and in certain specific cases (to be determined by the Embassy).

Documentation to be submited when applying for a visa:

For Tourism:

- passport valid at least 3 months longer than the intended stay in Slovenia

- proof of financial means (recent bank statement for the last 3 months or other document)

- proof of employment / proof of student status

- medical insurance documents (insurance valid in Europe for the time of stay; minimal coverage must be 50,000 CAD)

- permanent residency card or document on legal stay in Canada (original)

- one recent, not older than 6 months, biometric photo (same as for Canadian passport) 

- detailed travel itinerary from departure to return 

- filled out and signed visa application form (available here)

- voucher of the travel agency or flight and hotel proof of payments

- filled out and signed statement of obtaining an adequate health insurance for the period of stay within the Schengen area (available here)

-  prepaid envelope such as Fedex or Canada Post (Express Post) with your address in case you will receive your passport back by mail. Please enclose the attached signed form in the application packege.   

Additional documents may be required.

For Business:

- passport valid at least 3 months longer than the intended stay in Slovenia

- proof of employment

- medical insurance documents (insurance valid in Europe for the time of stay; minimal coverage must be 50,000 CAD)

- permanent residency card or document on legal stay in Canada (original)

- one recent color photo, Canada passport size

- detailed travel itinerary from departure to return 

- filled out and signed visa application form (available here)

- letter of guarantee for business visits signed by the person inviting you to Slovenia and notarized by a notary public or by the administrative unit in Slovenia (available here) 

- filled out and signed statement of obtaining an adequate health insurance for the period of stay within the Schengen area (available here)

- prepaid envelope such as Fedex or Canada Post (Express Post) with your address in case you will receive your passport back by mail. Please enclose the attached signed form in the application packege.

For Personal visit - applicant is not a spouse/child of a EU Citizen:

- passport valid at least 3 months longer than the intended stay in Slovenia

For Personal visit - applicant is a spouse/child of a EU Citizen:

- passport valid at least 3 months longer than the intended stay in Slovenia

- one recent color photo, Canada passport size

- filled out and signed visa application form (available here

- filled out statement of obtaining an adequate health insurance for the period of stay within the Schengen area (available here)

- marriage/birth certificate and proof of Citizenship of family member with EU Citizenship

- prepaid envelope such as Fedex or Canada Post (Express Post) with your address in case you will receive your passport back by mail. Please enclose the attached signed form in the application packege.

Additional documents may be required.

For transit*:

- With the new visa regulations the Transit (B) visas are not issued any more. If you are required to have a visa you need to apply for a short term visa instead.

 

-  prepaid FEDEX envelope with your address in order to receive your passport back by mail.

*A transit visa is generally required for certain Countries.  The requirement is stated under the general visa requirements for your country at the above mentioned link to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Slovenia.

Personal interview

A personal interview with the Consular Officer is mandatory. Visas cannot be processed through mail, courier services (FedEx, DHL, UPS) or travel agencies. An appointment for the interview should be scheduled in advance. In order to schedule an apointement please send an e-mail to: vot(at)gov.si

It is in the discretion of the Embassy to waive the personal interview for the following groups of applicants:

- Humanitarian cases,

- Direct family members of EU nationals,

- Diplomats, government officials

- International organizations' members traveling for business purposes

- Air crew members,

- Travel in the interest of Slovenia

- Regular visitors to Slovenia

- Special circumstances

Please be aware that in case the passport will be shipt back to you the Embassy of the Republic of Slovenia in Ottawa, Canada does not accept the liability for the loss/theft/damage/misuse of the document during transport. This responsibility is yours.

Duration of visa procedure

A visa is normally issued in up to 3 weeks after a submition of a completed application. Please, start your visa procedure on time. We recommend you submit your application at least one month before the day of departure.
